ArchAnimals – “Pokemon”
For me, one of the best feelings in the world is discovering an immensely talented, yet virtually unheard of indie band and being able to share it with the rest of the world. Upon stumbling onto the indie-rock trio ArchAnimals late last night, I was consumed by that feeling and was immediately elated by the very thought of sharing it with the rest of the unknowing world.
Think early Modest Mouse meets Neutral Milk Hotel, with an added touch of optimism, and you’ve got ArchAnimals. “Pokemon” is the first ever recorded and released song by the New Orleans fuzz-rock band ArchAnimals, and it’s being welcomed into the world of indie-rock with open arms. With vocals reminiscent of those of Modest Mouse’s singer Isaac Brock, ArchAnimal’s young and carefree lead singer sets his heart on his sleeve from the get-go, as every line he sings comes out with a feeling of nostalgia and heartfelt honesty. The fuzzy, distorted instrumentals topped with a precise balance of low-key kicks and snares only adds to the beautifully nostalgic sound, and perfectly compliments the spot on vocals in “Pokemon”.
“Pokemon” will serve as the first single from their forthcoming debut EP, however a release date has not yet been set. If the rest of ArchAnimal’s material sounds similar to this, they are sure to have a bright future ahead of them. Follow ArchAnimals on Facebook.
