Kanye West Directs a Movie Starring Kid Cudi About a Lamborghini Car Thief Who Falls In Love With A Blind Arab Woman
When your rich, a celebrity, or Kanye West, you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want. If you get bored late on a Thursday night and you decide “hey, what haven’t I done yet? Oh yeah, directed a movie!” – well then, why not right? I think that’s what went through Kanye’s mind when he thought up this movie and decided to feature GOOD music protege turned actor Kid Cudi. For those who somewhat follow Kanye, you’ve been hearing about this movie for quite some time now, and until recently, the plot of the 30-minute short film was pretty much unknown. But thanks to the good people who attended the premiere of the movie at the Cannes festival this past weekend, we now know what it’s about, sorta. The title of this post pretty much gives it away, but there’s actually a catch that I bet you didn’t see coming, so read the summaries below to find out:
As described by The Guardian,
Cruel Summer stars West’s GOOD Music protege Kid Cudi as a bloke of bad stock. Dad was a car thief – Kid’s desperate not to follow in his footsteps, so instead he walks through a sparkly purple door into the middle of the desert. Men on horseback arrest him. He’s taken to a palace full of fruit. A blind girl plucks a giant guitar string. Cudi’s wrapped in bandages. A hawk flies. In, ultra, slow, motion. Cudi resolves to cure his love of her blindness. The cure for blindness is a remix of a song by Coldplay.
Um. What? Let’s try another plot synopsis, this time from the LA Times‘ 24-Frames:
Cudi stars as a thief of high-end sports cars who falls in love with a blind Arabic princess. But the princess’ father won’t allow the pair to marry unless the thief can help her see, so the hero must find a way to make it happen (metaphorically).
My first reaction was probably the same as the most of yours- “lol wut?” I didn’t see that catch coming whatsoever; well done Kanye, well done.
